Back at it

I got back on the treadmill today since my knee injury.  It was exciting but painful, didn't go as long as I would have liked to.  A little voice (my husband's) said not to push myself :)  I'm going to wake up early tomorrow and go for it again!
Also my sister has a MRI of the brain (long awaited) this week.  Sending her my prayers everyday.

I'm so excited I got my first donation today!  Thank you Jenny and family!
I also sent out a recruitment email to family and friends.  Pray that I get more team members.
I'm so excited!

Temporary Setback

While at the Children's Museum I tripped and fell onto a stair, hitting my knee.  I am now in a straight leg splint and unable to walk on the treadmill.  boo hoo!
I really do miss it!  Hopefully I can get back on in two weeks (ugh that seems so long).

It's Official!

I just signed up for the Susan G Komen 3-day for the Cure.  I have committed to raising at least $2,300 and walking 60 mile in beautiful Seattle, WA.  I registered as a team so I need at least 1 more person to join me.

My sister got breast cancer which spread to her brain. I felt so helpless and frustrated that I couldn't help her. She fought and persevered! 60miles? I can do that!

It's been awhile

Sheesh!  I haven't updated in so long, shame on me!  Wait just a sec while I read my previous entry......ok. ;)
So from the time she came home from the hospital 11/2 was a waiting period till 11/15 the day of the pin point radiation.  In that period we had better Tonya and no more "episodes" hooray!

On 11/6 a co worker of Tonya's, Nancy Mitchell and her band organized a benefit for Tonya and Family.  It was at Rodders Pub in their event room.  It was packed with family, friends, coworkers, friends of friends, and coworkers of coworkers!  Over 300 people were there to show their support for Tonya, Kurt, and family.  It is obvious that Tonya and Kurt have touched so many people in ways even they, didn’t see as possible. There were donated goods for raffle and a 50/50 money pot raffle (you win 50%, Tonya gets 50%).  The winner of the 50/50 raffle was a coworker of Kurt's, he held the cash for a quick photo, then turned around, and put it back in the pot for Tonya and Kurt!  To put it lightly the night was a HUGE success!  A special thanks to Val Henry, Marion and Kevin Smith, and Maureen Palaoro for their help too.

On 11/14 the day before the pin point radiation procedure, I went over to her house.  Mom and dad came back up here to be here for the procedure.  It was a weird visit, Tonya was very tired at times and quite; but at other times she was very busy.  I put together Scentsy orders while she was a busy bee around the house.  When it came time for me to go I gave her a big hug, told her that I loved her, then told her how strong she is and not to worry about tomorrow.  Then I went over her preferred coping mechanisms to remind her of them.   She kinda had this blank look on her face but was responsive to what I said with "yeah, yeah."
Mom called me while Tonya was in recovery, she reported that the doctors said she was an ideal patient.  The procedure was said to be at least 2 hours and Tonya's was 30 minutes!  She was calm, laid very still, and didn't need any breaks.  Later she said, she just wanted to get it over with.  Wow, she's one strong, determined woman!!!!
This is the celebratory toast.

For a week in December, Tonya and family (including our parents, Dick & Donna, and Gretchen and her family) all went on Tonya's dream trip to Walt Disney World.  Everything went as planned (except for rain on the first day).

Shortly after her return from WDW Tonya had a full body scan from her neck down and received an ALL CLEAR report! All vital organs were checked and looked good. She is scheduled for another full body scan and a MRI of her brain the first week of March. For now she will be receiving these every 3 months.

Now she is doing so much better!  She is still very tired and has days where she'd like to lay in bed all day.  Her body, her brain, and her emotions (heart) are all coming to the reality of what she just went through.  We are all reminding her that we still support and love her!

Are your ready for the long story? ;)
Friday 10/29 she went for a spa day with two friends (she'd been looking forward to it).  That night I got a phone call that they were on their way to the ER.  Josh had Owen and Anson at the Disney on Ice show and I was putting Tommy to bed.  I did find someone to stay at my house thank goodness.  I guess she had some big "eposides" at the spa today.  Well Friday night at the ER is not fun!  Hours later like 4:30am  they dismissed her with a higher medication.
Saturday 10/30 started out okay.  She went to Aubrey's Volleyball game and was okay.  Later Josh called over there to arrange a time to hang out and he said she sounded fine.  So we went over there at about 4:00.  When we pulled up there were 5 cars there.  As we were getting out of the car Marion came running out. "She's having an 'episode' they are going back to the ER."  I said, "Josh go home, I'm going with them"  I went in the house and Tonya was hugging her crying friend Andrea.  I walked up to Tonya and she was having a manic type "episode" (this includes: repeating one phrase over and over and over again, fixating on one thing, rocking back and forth, unable to focus, difficulty making eye contact). I got in her face, gave her deep pressure on her shoulders and talked in a firm voice.  Then we moved to the front door and it started again with her coat.  I did the same and this time she said, "Ok let's go"  It was so cute/funny.  Then we got in the car and she asked where we were going. Kurt said back to the ER to get you help and she said, "not again, I hate it there"  It reminded me of a little kid, but then again that's how I had to treat her.  This time Kurt called the ER psychology department and they were there ready for our arrival.  Tonya had a big "episode" in the ER waiting room, in front of the psychologist.  That girl is too smart for her own good.  She knows what to say to get us all worked up/get things done.  Security was called and a wheel chair came out.  She was refusing to go in the ER (we were all surrounding her, she wasn't going anywhere).  I said "Tonya either you sit in that chair or these men will put you there."  "okay"(in a mopey voice).  We went in the ER and she was still in her "episode" I was out of the room signing papers, finally I just went in there, started her music, and basically told her to calm down.  It worked :)  Then the psychologist started talking about all these drastic alternatives OMG no thank you, she will hate us, but if that is what she needs.  Well they didn't have to do those alternatives, they determined it was medical not psychological.  So she was admitted to Oncology with heavy medication.  And we went home at a decent time (10:30)  She was in the hospital for 4 days each day drastically better!  Now 11/3 she is home!  Today I took her errands shopping.  She said she slept all night!  Hooray!!!  She seemed so different from the person she was last Saturday.
So now that I think back, I think I have the "triggers" narrowed down.  So on our errands today I was taking note of our surroundings and her reactions to situations.  Well thing went very very smooth.  The only thing I noted was her decreased problem solving skills, she kinda panicked in stressful situations, but I helped her though it.
Let's pray that phase is over!
